Professor James Terence Coulter Wright
James Terence Coulter Wright, MSc., Ph.D.
earned his BSc. in Civil Engineering at the Mackenzie University in
São Paulo, Brazil, and his MSc. in Engineering Management at
Vanderbilt University, USA. He earned his Ph.D. in Business
Administration at the University of São Paulo with research
completed in
the area of computer-aided group decision making.
James became Professor of Business Policy at the School of
Economics, Administration, and Accounting, of the University of
São Paulo in 1982, and is currently the Faculty Research
Coordinator for
the Business School. He teaches courses in the areas of Business Policy
and Managerial Economics, Project Feasibility Analysis, Technology
Forecasting, and Technology Transfer. In 1992, he created the
International Executive MBA program of the University of São
Paulo, the top ranked Executive MBA program in Brazil, which he directs
to date.
He has served for 8 years as a Director of the Institute of
Administration Foundation, a nonprofit foundation associated with the
Business Administration School of the University of São Paulo
(FEA-USP),
and currently heads its Future Studies Program, founded in 1980.
James has professional business experience in industrial project
management in both Brazil and Africa, and has done extensive
consulting
work in Brazil for both domestic and international companies, trade
associations, research institutes, federal and state governments, and
the World Bank. Energy, transportation, information technology,
financial services, research priorities, regional planning, and
environmental studies are some of the areas he has consulted
on.
Research interests include technology and business forecasting,
strategic planning, cognitive mapping, and computer-aided group
decision,
with articles published both in Brazil and overseas. He serves on the
Board of Directors of several international institutions, academic
organizations, and companies.
His prizes and awards include Teaching Quality awards at FEA-USP in the
Undergraduate Program in Business Administration, the Didactic
Excellence award in the MBA Program (2002), and First Place in
Teaching Performance in the Graduate Program (2003). He won the
prestigious Jabuti Prize 2000 as coauthor of the book
“Impacto Agroambiental” (Agro-environmental Impacts), and the Thomas
Kunh Gold Medal awarded by the International Union of Air Pollution Prevention
and Environmental Protection and the International Academy of Science,
for his contribution to the Floram Project, 1992–1995.
